 Class Descriptions

Basic Obedience teaches you and your dog the basic cues of obedience training; focus, sit, sit-stay, down, down-stay, recall, targeting and heel. This course also offers problem solving for jumping, barking, digging, chewing, leash pulling, nipping/mouthing, and a basic understanding of canine body language as we explore how we communicate (or mis-communicate) with our dogs!

Intermediate Obedience is for anyone who is interested in achieving the Canine Good Citizen award or therapy training for their dog. It is also great for anyone who just wants to spend more time with their dog, training and bonding properly as well. Cues are worked while increasing distance & distractions. An introduction to competition and rally obedience, clicker training and other canine sports will be included.

Advanced Obedience is an opportunity for you to strengthen your bond with your dog as well as your skills. is for anyone interested in competing in various dog trials such as AKC or APDT Obedience & Rally, AKC, NADAC, CPE Agility or showing your dog.

Puppy Socialization, based on Ian Dunbar’s Sirius Training Methods, is the most important thing you can do for your puppy! The most common reasons that dogs are surrendered can be prevented during puppyhood. As a responsible puppy owner, you must prepare your dog for life by teaching them how to interact with our world properly.

Your puppy will engage in an essential opportunity to interact with other puppies (and people), learn to communicate and get along with other dogs, while also learning to focus on you with others around. You will learn to curb problem behaviors before they grow difficult as you will both prepare to enter Basic Obedience. Your puppy will begin to learn the essential basics of obedience training, including recall, bite inhibition, building a chew toy habit, accepting touch in preparation for vet and groomer visits, targeting, desensitizing to and confidence building around things they’ve never seen before, but will likely encountered (such as hats, umbrellas, etc.). This course also offers advice and problem solving for elimination training, nipping/mouthing, possession/food aggression and other common problems. This STAR test (Puppy/Pre-CGC) will be given during this class.

Agility is a team sport where you work with your dog through a number of obstacles such as jumps, tunnels, A-frames, weave poles, teeter totters,  and more. You will be  working on competition grade equipment, which includes all items you would work on if you choose to compete, though many people simple enjoy this activity without competing. This sport is great for any dog as it increases their confidence and attention toward their handler (you) & improves communication with your dog. Children can work with their dogs as young as seven as well (I've seen many of them win competitions!). I am currently running three dogs in AKC, NADAC and CPE venues. Agility is extremely rewarding and fun!
Beginner/Intermediate Agility will acclimate your dog to all of the equipment and teach you the basic cues and handling techniques needed to navigate the through the equipment with your dog. Basic or puppy obedience is required.

Intermediate/Advanced Agility will sharpen your skills as a handler and build your dog's confidence in the equipment and in communicating with you. You will focus of specific handler skills as well as work in longer sequences with your dog.

Competition Obedience will prepare you and your dog for novice level competition. You will complete competition length courses, with sequences common in actual trials. A visit to a local agility show is part of this course.

Good Manners in Public is an extention of obedience where we will visit local areas where dogs are welcome and strengthen your control of your dog in different situations (also called "proofing" behavior). Socializing and working with your dog in various areas is suggested in all classes and guidelines are given at each level, but this class gives you an opportunity to have a trainer with you during the experiences. Visits include local pet stores/groomers, dog parks, walking around town, etc. Car safety and behavior will be addressed as well.
Private sessions are available for every service above, excluding the AKC testing (as per the AKC guidelines).
Our class size is small (typically 3-5 dog/handler teams) therefore you get more attention from the trainer(s) and we often have assistants in class, unlike many pet store classes where you will see 8, 10 or more dogs in one class. It is important to us that you and your dog get the support needed to succeed so that you are happy with your dog, because we are...

Dedicated to Canine Companionship!
